THE EMPLOYMENT OF MEDICAL STUDENTS IN THE PERITONEAL DIALYSIS PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NAPLES DURING THE YEARS 1973-1981

Carmelo Giordano, Natale G. De Santo and Giuseppe Capodicasa

Chairs of Nephrology and Pediatric Nephrology, Ist Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Naples, Naples, Italy.

Medical students participated in the peritoneal dialysis program at the Ist Medical Faculty of the University of Naples. In this way, they learned medicine at the bedside and, while preparing their MD thesis, were taught to monitor in the laboratory the effects of therapy. This program, which combined student training, patient care and research seems most suitable for peritoneal dialysis programs at university hospitals.
